I missed Levi’s first steps. I was working 60 hours that week on my secular job. It made me sick. That’s a precious moment that I will never get back.
It was a spontaneous moment. Sarah didn’t have the video camera waiting. She couldn’t even snap the pic on her iPhone.
Up until that point, my mantra had been, “I may not spend much time with my family, but when I do, it’s quality time.” Then I realized that I have no control over what is or is not quality time.
Some things you can’t adapt to fit your mold. You have to adapt to accommodate the spontaneous. I was talking to someone who told me they desire to blog. They want to blog, but “can’t find inspiration.” Well…it’s like this. You come across quality in the midst of quantity. Inspiration comes through repetition.
You aren’t going to wake up one morning and decide to allow God to speak to you. You aren’t going to have an epiphany one afternoon while walking on the beach and grow an instantaneous relationship with Him.
“I only pray five minutes a day, but it is quality.” Oh, yeah?
If Matthias would have picked and chosen the times that he walked with Jesus throughout His earthly ministry, he would have been disqualified to be one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. He probably wouldn’t have been there to be elected in Acts 1 or filled in Acts 2. Matthias found quality amidst quantity.
Here’s the pertinent question: What do you value most? If you value something enough, you will place a quantifiable effort into it. As for me, I will be there when Levi learns to ride his bike.
Excellent. Makes me want to pray….and now! And then I am going to go kiss my family. Thanks for this.
